The bypass channel and the associated infrastructure is a unique way to provide flood protection for over 2,400 acres of neighborhoods in our community, protecting them from highest level of flooding expected in the area.
To test the hydraulic validity of this system, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers advised the project team to assemble a 40-to-1 scale model of the new bypass channel and associated infrastructure. This football field-size replica of the future landscape not only provided a flood of data for project engineers, it saved the project partners millions of dollars in the long run.
